Ugly Christmas Sweater Event
December 2nd, 9:30-ish
ALPA and ALTA will continue the tradition of having our members look ridiculously funny while playing Pickleball. We’ll have a morning of play, followed by a self-pay social at the Outlaw Clubhouse. See you there!
Outlaw Courts Pavilion
YES! Soon, it will be just a short walk from the Tennis and Pickleball Courts to our beautiful, new pavilion. It will have restrooms, seating, storage, and more. So, the race is on!
What will be finished first, the Outlaw Pavilion, or the Alto Recreation Center?
Notable ALPA Pickle People December 2023—Stephen and Sherry Morris
Stephen and Sherry Morris are avid pickleball players, and dedicated members of ALPA. Pickleball brought them together as a couple. They split their time between Alto and Casa Grande, AZ, so they can enjoy the game year-round. Both have served on the ALPA board, and Stephen is currently our president.
Sherry began her journey with pickleball in 2017 in our mountains. She stumbled across the game at a Ruidoso Billy the Kid Pickleball event. It caught her eye, since she was a former tennis player. Sherry found a great instructor, and immediately became hooked. Sherry is very skilled and has competed at the local, regional, and national levels, medaling in each. Sherry enjoys tournament competition, but her favorite play is when she’s having a laughing good time with her Alto friends on the Outlaw Courts.
Stephen also found pickleball in Ruidoso on the old Dupont courts, where the grass was growing in the cracks. He caught the pickleball craze and took it back to his home tennis courts in Ft. Worth. He became a Pickleball Ambassador in order to garnish grants for nets, balls, and paddles, and started pickleball at four local municipal recreation centers. Eventually, his enjoyment of the game was highlighted when he became a certified pickleball referee. He feels fortunate to have refereed at professional tournaments, and has a great time refereeing amateurs, whom he says are a hoot to try and corral.
Stephen has a passion for teaching pickleball and helping all improve their skills. He facilitates summer training, even brining in certified trainers on occasion. He’s worked hard to improve our Outlaw courts and Club as a whole.
AS a couple, Stephen and Sherry say they are proof that the pickleball arena fosters friendships, camaraderie, and even matrimony. They cherish the friends they share on the court, and off. And ALPA is forever grateful for what the Morris’ have done to build our Club and the love for the game.
