Golf News
We have several aces to report to you from a beautiful Alto Lakes. First up since our last Avalanche was David Sibley holing it on #5 at Alto back on July 20. David was playing with wife Diane, Margie Hirsch, and Pete Dickinson. The same day again on #5 at Alto, Mark wise knocked in his Pitching Wedge for his 3rd career ace. Mark was playing with Paul Vescovo, Bill walker, Robert Valdez, and Phillip Vescovo. Next up was Ralph rush acing # 10 at Outlaw during round 2 of the Snowcapper. Ralph’s first ace was witnessed by partner Ryder Beadle, and fellow competitors Nathan Thomas and John Duncan. Rounding out our acers this month was Mike Heathington when he aced #5 at Outlaw with his 8 iron for his first. Mike was playing with Tim Harris and Scott Roser. Then on August 15, Charlyn Daugherty made her 5th career ace when she knocked in her 7 hybrid on @17 at Alto. Charlyn was playing with hubby Gerald and their guests the Lupton’s. Well done to all our sharpshooters!
A quick weather update for those not here; most of July was much wetter than usual as the Monsoons really kicked off in earnest (as we’d hoped) in July. As August is upon us, thus far
we see more of the same so we’re doing well. The courses are fabulous!
For September, we continue with the first tee time being 7:00 AM, and as always, tee times are taken at 4:00PM two weeks prior.
Play continues to be strong though not quite to last years’ record levels. We do see a difference in being able to make tees times though if you need an exact time, it’s still good to get on Foretees right at 4:00PM two weeks ahead.
As we get in to the slower growing season in September and October, it becomes even more important to repair your ball marks and divots as you make them. Something else to also consider is using the broken tee cups we have on each tee box…an interesting factoid is that the number one cause of flats on mowing equipment is broken tees…not thorns or broken tree limbs as you might suspect, it’s broken tees! Thanks in advance for your help here.
A quick pitch here for the AMGA Lonesome Pine
Member-Member; as Labor Day is this year on the 6th of September, there’s still plenty of time to grab a partner and get signed up.
Actual competition days are September 7-9, and we will be using both courses. At this time, all scoring will be at net. Tuesday Modified Shamble, select drive then play your own ball out, 50% individual handicap applied. Must use 8 drives from each player. Wednesday Modified Scramble, select drive then scramble through rest of hole. 50% of combined handicaps applied. Must use 8 drives from each player. Thursday Better Ball net. These adjustments will allow players of any handicap or tee selection to play with each other and still be a fair competition for all. Nice entry gifts, food, and prizes as well!
Also, a reminder for the 2nd annual ALGA Fall Fling which is a 4 Lady team of your choosing played September 22-23. Round 1 is a Step Aside Scramble using a percentage of the combined handicaps, and day 2 is a true Alternate Shot also using a percentage of the combined handicaps. Entry fee is 75 per player and flights are paid both for gross and net scores. All participants must be members of the ALGA.
