Golf News
Greetings:
First and foremost, I am honored to be your new Director of Golf at Alto lakes Golf & Country Club! For those of you that may not know I made the transition to Alto from Rainmakers, where I was the Head Golf professional for 7 years. Prior to that I spent 14 years with one management company and ran three of the seven courses within their portfolio. Since May of 2020, I have enjoyed learning and working the operation of this beautiful club and its various moving parts. I feel the time spent thus far has been extremely beneficial; In addition, I’m grateful to have been able to work alongside Mr. Don Bryant who has obviously created quite a legacy here at ALGCC! I relish the opportunity to carry on that legacy but also strive to lead and work with a team to provide exceptional member/guest service to you at YOUR club! My philosophy is pretty simple; Take good care of people to the best of your abilities and resources. One of my mentors early in my golf career told me something that always stuck with; We are in the entertainment business! Yes we are. In my experience as a managing golf professional various clubs, I’ve found that you are everything from a plumber to a psychologist. Thank goodness there are so many in between those because neither of those are my forte! However, what fascinates me the most in this business is what you can learn on almost a daily basis. It could be a pipe leak, product knowledge on a golf club, setting up a tournament in Golf Genius, or the light bulb going off on the lesson tee with a member no prouder moment)! Just when you think you’ve seen it all.
And now, to some club news. As of right now, all of our seasonal H2B help have gone home. That being said, we are relying on few outside service personnel. In addition, we are lacking a cart mechanic at this time so our services provided for private carts are limited until we can fill this position. We appreciate your patience with this. As far as our inside golf shop staff, we are status quo with one addition. Israel Davis has joined us as a Golf Shop Assistant at Alto. Israel is a local product and an experienced golfer with aspirations of attaining his PGA status here at Alto. Please stop by and say hello to Israel.
As far as our weather, things are cooling down a bit where we are experiencing frost delays. It shouldn’t be long before our first snow! For November, the first tee time will be 8:30 AM, and as always, tee times are taken at 4:00PM two weeks prior. Play is starting to taper off as cooler weather arrives, and many have headed home.
As we get into the slower growing season in November, it becomes even more important to repair your ball marks and divots as you make them. We appreciate your cooperation with this!
Not to beat a dead horse, but I wanted to touch on the general supply chain in all of our worlds! It continues to be a challenge in many different facets. Certain things are just hard to track down and get; It is out of control for many but all we can do is hurry up and wait….Or sometimes succumbing to an answer not favorable! I will follow that with a little positive news on our 2021 golf carts which are on the way! By the time you read this, they’ll be here. Believe me, this news is enabling me to sleep a little better! We are planning on the same process in April or May of 2022 to replace the current 2018 models. I will be starting a list for those carts if you are interested starting after the first of the year. We have put together the Spring 2022 orders for both shops. Barring any other news, we hope to have these as planned!
For some exciting news to those of you that may not know already, we are planning a full golf shop remodel at both courses. Alto will have undergone more detailed construction, whereas, Outlaw will have some simpler modifications. When all complete, we think you’ll love the updates and new efficiencies of each shop! The current scope of work is slated for a late January start. The work will be done by Procraft. I am very familiar with Procraft from other clubs and have been working diligently with them for several months now creating plan designs that best suit operations. They are the best in the business and been doing this for many years. Please check them out at www.procraftgolf.com.
We are in the process of updating our club website which is long overdue! This process is going to be very involved for the management team but will be great once complete. The goal is for it to be a powerful resource for you to get information readily at your fingertips. We look forward to making this a useful amenity for the membership.
QUICK UPDATE:
As of December 1, 2021, ALGCC will no longer tender cash for payments. Everything will be solely member charge or credit card. As a private club, we don’t need the liability of cash handling if it can be prevented. We apologize if this creates any inconvenience but truly feel that it is a safer practice for all. Always remember, we do have the ATM machine right outside the golf shop for any of your cash needs.
HOLE IN ONE REPORT:
On September 23rd, Ron Marcum knocked it in on #16 at Outlaw with a gap wedge from 113! His wife Sylvia witnessed this. One day later, Joe Bob Taylor aced the 5th hole at Alto with an 8-iron from 125. Gus Blackshear was there to see it. This was Joe Bob’s 2nd ever hole in one.
On October 3rd, Mac Landrum aced his 3rd ever hole in one at Alto #17 from 118 using a 9-iron. Kristy, Ken, and Doug Meunier were there to witness and be thirsty! At Outlaw on October 9th Jim Forster aced the 3rd hole using a 7-wood from 150. Those witnesses were son Scott, Robert Coburn, and Rick Guidry. That’s the first ever hole in one for Jim. One of our newest members, Bee DeCordova aced the 17th at Alto from 102 yards with an 8-iron. Bryan DeCordova was there to witness and that makes the hole in one total 2 for Bee. On October 22nd, we have two to report. David Neal aced the 5th hole at Alto for his first ever hole in one!
He used a 9-iron, and it was seen by Barbara Neal and David Deason. Richie Hood knocked a wedge in the hole on #17 at Alto for his second ever hole in one. This one was witnessed by Nathan Thomas, Scott Miller, John Rogers, Tom Bloemendaal, and Doug Siddens. Phyllis Lanoue Aced the 10th hole at Outlaw on October 22nd. She knocked it in with a 6 hybrid which makes her hole in one total two. Dan Lanoue and Hayden Bode were witnesses to it.
Way to go to all of you!
Are you in the hole in one club? If you are interested please contact Charisse Wadsworth at [email protected]. The program costs $5 per person and reloads each time a hole in one participant makes a hole in one. Each golf shop has a simple form to fill out should you have one. Inquire at either golf shop for the form.
Well, that’s one newsletter down and many more to come! Again, I look forward to serving you along with the rest of the team. We’re glad you’re here; stop in and say hello.
Sincerely,
John Rogers, PGA
