August 2021 Golf News
We have 3 aces to report since our last avalanche so let’s get right to it. First up on July 7, Doug Meunier made his second career ace, this time on #3 at Alto during the AMGA playday with his Gap Wedge. Happy team-mates were Dean Goupil, Craig Cathey, and Dalton Neill. Now for the really interesting part, on the same hole, same day, same event, Don Ratay does the same thing with his Gap Wedge as well! Don’s team-mates were Ron McInturff, Tom Lankford, and Greg Graham. I’ve been here nearly 20 years and have never seen 2 aces in the same competition much less same hole using the same club! Then on lucky date 7-11, Frank Maldonado recorded his 3rd career ace this time on #7 at Alto with his 8 iron. Frank was playing with Neil Goodman, Gary Wolverton, and Max Peek. Well done folks on these great shots.
All of us are experience supply chain issues to some degree. On my end, our 30 new ClubCar carts for Outlaw were due for delivery in the first 10 days of May, (ordered in late January as always), just as all deliveries have been in my 20 years here. We are still waiting and still no firm ship date. Another small example as I write this on July 17, I received an invoice from FootJoy with the final 4 pair of a particular shoe from a pre-book order I made in October of 2020, which was due in by April 15, and I’ll actually see the final 4 pair next week.
Glenn Denny our ultra-talented Golf Course Superintendent, has experienced the same delays in such mundane things as flagsticks, cups, our custom flags for the flagsticks, and tee markers…these particular items being quite noticeable to all our players when they get a little “seedy” looking (as my Mom used to say). All we can say is please bear with us; surely our vendors will get caught up someday and until then, our apologies if something appears a little less than our usual “spec”.
We’d like to pass on a reminder that the Clubs’ stated dress code for men and ladies also includes the practice facilities (driving range and chipping/putting greens). We’ve had a few isolated incidents of late where someone got through working out in the fitness center and then decided to hit some balls…which is fine, just not in your workout tee shirt. If you’re planning to hit balls after a workout, please just remember to bring a collared shirt with you and adhere to the adult dress code same as if you were on the course. This also applies at The Outlaw of course, as well. Thanks in advance for your cooperation. As always, children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult member when using the practice facilities at either facility.
Also a reminder to all that we will (as always) start tee times in August at 7:00AM. We continue to start taking tee times at 4:00 PM. Golf shop hours are 7:00AM-7PM. This is the same whether by phone, in person, or by the ForeTees internet system available through the Club website. If you have not yet registered with the club website, simply log in to www.altolakesgolf.com, go to the bottom of the start page and click “Members”. About mid-page on the next screen there is a line to click which says “go to the club registration page”. Click there; fill out the information asked for, and your done. Then, just log in; click the Foretees logo, and your good to go to make/view times online. As always, just give us a call if you have any problems, and we can walk you through it.
Also on the subject of Foretees a quick word to the wise; if you have a tee time with open spots in it, those open slots are available to any member on Foretees. If you for example, had originally scheduled a foursome and 2 have to drop out, the other 2 spots are open for any of our members. To take this a step further and those who originally left your group now can again play, please look and make sure the open spots have not been filled by other members. If so and the wayward 2 really want to play, just give us a call and we can help make arrangements for all concerned. Please DO NOT just remove the 2 who have joined without all concerned being notified so adjustments can be made. Thanks!
A note about safety; We have a very sophisticated ThorGuard lightning warning system in place here at the Club. Some may be new to Alto and not know that when the alarm does sound, we most stringently urge you to immediately cease play and seek shelter. Lightning anywhere, and particularly up here in the mountains, can come from any direction and, while no warning system is 100% foolproof, our system is state of the art in warning you of static electricity build which is the forerunner of the lightning itself. Club policy is when in any organized golf event, you MUST immediately cease play and seek shelter either at the Pavilion, or at any of the lightning shelters around the courses, or the cart barn. Please, heed the warnings! FYI; the alert warning is a 10 second continuous blast, and the all clear is 3 consecutive 5 second blasts.
