February—the month of love, according to tradition.
Tennis fans celebrate this month of love every time we call out the score, as in “15-Love,” meaning “15 to zero.”
Beyond scorekeeping, what do Alto Lakes Tennis Association (ALTA) love about tennis?
We asked around…
Not surprisingly, nearly everyone echoed similar sentiments.
“Great exercise.” “It’s fun!” and “Great way to hang out with friends,” were members’ most common answers.
More original ones included, “I love the satisfying feel of the ball hitting the racquet and going exactly where I want it to.”
And “Short skirts and gorgeous legs,” from an observant, appreciative male player.
“I played in high school and college and now that I’m retired, I’m still playing.”
But the best answer of all came from Judi VonCollenburg and Paul Braun. “We met on the tennis court,” they confided. They were living in Las Cruces when one day Paul noticed a cute little blonde dashing all over the court, making great shots. “I needed to meet her,” Paul, a rated player, said.
He finagled his way into an introduction, and the rest is ALTA tennis history.
As for me, I love our Golf Shops’ sales. They have the cutest outfits.
Trivia Question
Does Andre Agassi love tennis? Answer at the end.
ALTA loves good February weather!
On windless, dry days, tennis players can enjoy courts at Outlaw and Kokopelli. Reserve on Foretees.
Dress in layers, remember sunscreen and water, and love having tennis fun!
You’ll find the answer to the Trivia Question in Andre Agassi’s autobiography, Open, available at our Ruidoso Public Library.
Tennis, anyone? Tennis, everyone!
