Happy April, everyone!
I always sign off on my newsletters with “Grip, Clip, and Pose.” I'm going to briefly go over these three simple keys to a successful golf swing.
Grip- There are several different ways to grip a golf club. We all have different-sized hands, and we all have different amounts of strength in our grip. Our hands are the only thing that should touch the club during our golf swing, so it is essential for us to be able to hold the club at an angle where the club head is pointed at the target at impact with the ball. In my opinion, no matter how you hold the golf club, it should be in your fingers and not in your palms. I believe this is the most important part of a successful golf grip.
Clip- we want to clip the grass immediately following contact with the golf ball. In order to do that, the golf club must be descending downward through the downswing. If we can focus on clipping the ground, the only mistake we usually make is clipping the ground first before we hit the golf ball. If we focus on clipping, we rarely top the ball.
Pose- I have been asked why I think posing after we have hit the ball matters. In my opinion, If we can't have a balanced pose at the end of our golf swing, then we have done something wrong during the swing to throw us off balance. If you watch golf on TV, rarely do you see the same type of swing, but almost always you will see a very balanced pose on their follow-through. Remember, we all have different body types and physical abilities. None of our swings are going to be exactly the same. I believe if you can incorporate these three things in your swing, you should be pretty successful. Good luck!
