Hello AL9GA Golfers:
July didn’t bring the monsoons like we usually have, but we are still hoping for August to give us some much-needed moisture.
July was a busy month for the club - July 4th parade - Folds of Honor - Kachina Doll - Sadie Hawkins - Couples Golf; but the AL9GA got in two play days - one at the Club, and one at The Lodge in Cloudcroft - 2 golf lessons - and a 9-Holer social. We had close to 40 ladies go to Cloudcroft, and we enjoyed pizza afterwards. Thank you to Dianna Gibson for coordinating our “away” play day. Super fun!
That being said…we know it has been a frustration to some of you who have been waitlisted for our play days. Believe me, we are just as frustrated. Thanks to one member’s husband’s idea, we have come up with a solution until we can get to next year, where we are hopeful to have a plan that will allow us more playing spots and less waitlisting. Thank you to Julie and Matt Pursley for sharing your ideas with the board. Your 9-Holer board met with John Rogers and Glen Denney and got approval to have two start times for our play days on Aug 7th. You will receive two emails from John Rogers. One is for a 9:00am start time and the other is for an 11:00am start time. Only sign up for one. We should have room for 88 players, and that should alleviate the need for a wait list. The wait list problem was handled well by Dianna Gibson. On the July 17th play day, we had 17 on the waitlist. Dianna got everyone but one in to play due to some dropouts. That is a lot of work on her to shuffle groups around. Please cancel by the Friday before a Monday play day to avoid the time-consuming schedule shuffling for Dianna. It is important to go ahead and sign up, even if there is a wait list. Being waitlisted doesn’t mean you can’t play, just hold tight until Sunday night; we always have cancellations. But if you are not on the wait list, we can’t get you in if we have cancellations.
Thank you to Joy Hill for hosting our July social. We had close to 60 ladies come and enjoy her beautiful home, amazing food (thanks to all even birthdates for bringing delicious food), and great fellowship. Our next social will be at Debbie Starnes’s house, address 107 Bobby Jones Court (Outlaw) on Tuesday, August 15th @ 4:00 – 6:00 pm. Odd birthdates bring an appetizer to share. Hope to see you all there.
Susan Holmes continues to coordinate our group lessons. Thank you, Susan! Even though Martin has resigned, we are still offering lessons at Outlaw. We had one on July 20th and 29th. The August lessons are Aug 24th and 31st at 1:00pm and 2:00pm. Call the Outlaw Golf Shop to sign up, and bring $10 cash or check.
August is busy with the Men’s Snowcapper Tournament, so a slow start for the 9-Holers, but we have three play days in August, plus our 2-day 9-Hole Mama Zia Tournament - Monday/Tuesday, Member/Guest, Alto front/Alto back. Your Mama Zia Tournament team - Gail Acker, Dianna Gibson, Amy Fox, and Stacy Barr - are all working hard on the budget, food, signups, prizes, and much fun. The signup should be August 1st, so as soon as you see it come to your email - sign up. It usually fills up fast. Look for more details from Dianna soon.
August 19th is our Flog Trac Reverse Golf Cart Raffle. Tickets sells are still going on. See any Board member to buy your $100 ticket, which gets you a chance to win the golf cart, a meal including beer and wine, and a DJ Pete dance party. Everyone attending must have a ticket even if you are not eating. A ticket gets you in the door. You do not have to be present to win the golf cart, but you do have to be present to auction your ticket off if you have one of the last tickets NOT pulled.
That about wraps it up for this edition. We look forward to seeing everyone at the play days, the social, the reverse raffle, and our Mama Zia Tournament.
Alto Adult Summer Camp is in full swing.
