We are now into February and thankfully we have been getting some small snowstorms, which bring moisture and help lessen the fire danger and help our water table.
As we move towards the spring, everyone needs to ramp up cleaning their property up. I have watched several videos on YouTube that are very helpful.
Type in the search bar on YouTube, Firewise landscaping or any phrase related, and you will see multiple videos showing how you can make your home or property fire safe.
Also, our club has a list of multiple tree cutting contractors that are licensed and insured that do tree, grass and brush thinning.
I have had a couple of vacant lots I and my own home done, and it really makes a very nice, noticeable aesthetic difference in your property and I personally believe it can increase the value of your property and the big factor is it can save your home in the event of a wildfire.
Again, everyone who has already done this or is in the process, we appreciate, and I am sure your neighbors do too.
Every year there is typically grant money available, through the US Forest Service for private property owners that can significantly reduce the cost of thinning your property.
Their number is 575-354-2231. Call to get on the list for the co-op money. Thanks for helping all of Alto to be firesafe!
