Each year the AMGA is proud to sponsor events that support our community. The annual First Tee event teaches golf and life skills to youth golfers (ages 5 – 12). The goal is to enable young people of all backgrounds to build the strength of character that will empower them through a lifetime of new challenges. This year’s event will be held on July 5-6 from 1- 3:30pm at The Outlaw course. Please contact Joe McCubbin, [email protected] or (512) 791-2226 for registration information.
The “Used Golf Club Sale” will return next year, as it is a biennial event. Sale proceeds sponsor the First Tee program for those families who cannot afford the entry fee. Please continue saving used clubs, bags, golfing aides, etc., and consider donating them next year.
The second AMGA-sponsored event is the annual Folds of Honor golf tournament scheduled for July 1, which provides educational scholarships to spouses and children of America’s fallen and disabled service members who were on active duty in the United States Armed Forces. If you have not had the opportunity to participate in a Folds of Honor tournament, I guarantee you will be moved by our service members’ and their families’ sacrifices. Please plan to play in this worthwhile golf tournament – our goal is to fill the Alto course to honor America’s heroes.
The 2022 Snowcapper member/guest golf tournament registration brochure and entry form was emailed to all AMGA members on May 23. Registrations received in the first three days exceeded the maximum number of teams the tournament can accommodate, and the AMGA has notified all teams of their registration/waiting-list status.

In June, the AMGA membership exceeded 500 members. The combined ALGCC ladies’ and men’s golf associations currently represent the largest number of golf members in the Sun Country Amateur Golf Association, which comprises all of New Mexico and West Texas.
Golf joke of the month:
It was a sunny Saturday morning, and Ken was already in a bad mood, when a voice came over the clubhouse loudspeaker.
“Would the gentleman on the Ladies’ tee please back up to the men’s tee, please!” the voice boomed.
Ken was still trying to concentrate, impervious to the interruption.
Again, the announcement, “Would the man on the women’s tee kindly back up the men’s tee!”
Ken had had enough. He shouted, “Would the announcer in the clubhouse kindly shut up and let me play my second shot!?”
