Hyperice was founded in 2011 by Anthony Katz, a history and political science educator originally from Laguna Beach, CA.  Also a basketball and coaching enthusiast, Anthony developed a peaked interest in athlete enhancement. 
 
He began experimenting with neoprene and ice, and in 2009, developed a “wearable ice compression device” with one specific athlete in mind: NBA great Kobe Bryant.  Bryant offered product feedback for the Hyperice, and became the first test market for the product.
 
As physical demands on pro athletes continued to burgeon, Katz saw an ever-growing need for portable percussion devices that help to reduce injury and potentially extend careers.
