Happy Holidays
from the Golf Staff!
For those away from Alto, we had a beautiful early/mid October with perfect weather and then lost the last week of the month due to an 8-10 inch snow…very unusual to have that much this early. We had a little last year prior to Halloween but when we do have early snow, it’s usually just a dusting to a couple inches and gone quickly. As I write this on November 13, the first 12 days have been fairly nice with one exception of a couple of days with a high wind, not out of ordinary. Of course any moisture at all this time of year is a real bonus and much appreciated so the late October snow was welcome in that respect. The grass is still quite green though not the emerald green of the summer to be sure as we have had a few frosts thus far.
We have a couple of aces to report this month and the ultra-rare double eagle or Albatross. J. R. Kahn made a natural 2 on Alto par 5 #4 back on November 13 when he hit his usual drive straight down the middle and then holed his 6 iron from 187 yards out. J.R. was playing with Roy Reynolds and Frank Maldonado. I can count on one hand the number of double eagles we’ve had in my 19 years here…well done J.R.! On to our Aces, Scott Bibb, a guest of Robin long, made an ace back on October 20 on #5 at Alto with his pitching wedge. It was Scott’s first career ace and he was playing with Robin, and James Bibb. Then on November 7, Bill Foote made his second career ace on #3 at Alto with his 9 iron. Bill was playing with wife Jo Ann and David Gough. We generally don’t mention Eagles in this blurb but we did have an unusual one back in October for Barbara Neal; Barbara was playing #8 at Outlaw and holed her second shot for her first ever Eagle on that hole. Congratulations go out to Scott, Bill, and Barbara for their great shots!
We’d also like to welcome a new full time staff member to Outlaw. Sean Moore has interned for us the last 2 seasons at Outlaw and he is joining us full time. Sean is a graduate of the Professional Golf Management Program at New Mexico State and is the son of a PGA member, Russ Moore. Sean, in the very near future, will complete all requirements for PGA membership and will become the coveted Class A member, elected to membership effective early next year. Congratulations to Sean upon his college graduation, his new job, and election to membership in the PGA of America…great accomplishments all!
FYI, we will continue the 90 degree cart policy for winter play this year at both Alto and Outlaw (stay on the path to even with your ball, drive out to it, then stay in the fairway until you’ve hit up by or on the green, then exit to path). We’ve done this the last couple of years, and with no more play than we have in the winter, we saw no ill effects in the spring. Of course if weather conditions dictate (such as thawing out from a wet snow) we might need to stay on paths for a few days from time to time. As always, we ask your help in avoiding any frost or snow which primarily would be seen in shaded areas from time to time.
A reminder that this being an even number year, the golf shop credit book will re-set January 1, but is good through December 31, 2020. As always, anything you might see elsewhere can most certainly be ordered and drop-shipped to your home if need be, if you’re away from Alto…we do this all the time so no worries.
We’d like to remind you with the gift giving season upon us that all members receive a 20% discount off the retail price of everything in the golf shop…and this is year ‘round. Also, we’ll match the “Big Box” stores on all first line equipment, etc, so if you’ve been perusing the online catalogues for something new, give us a call and we’ll match it. Again, this is something we do year around as well, and there’s never any worry if a warranty issue might arise…we take care of all that as well.
We have some new arrivals here in the shop just in time for Holiday Gift Giving. We have a great selection of long sleeve shirts, jackets and windbreakers for both men and women from several different companies with both logos. And don’t forget the Outlaw as we have a good selection of shirts and outerwear for men and women there as well. We also just received a large shipment of logoed golf bags at both shops…and we can gift wrap for you at no charge too!
With the Holiday’s upon us once again, for the golfer on your list, we again this year are doing the special Holiday Golf Ball promotion where you can order as few as one dozen (or as many as you like) of your favorite Titleist golf balls with a name, nick-name, initials, phrase, slogan….pretty much anything (as long as it’s clean!), for a discounted price and free shipping on 2 dozen or more. We also can combine shipping here to Alto to get the free freight as well, so if your recipients are here or coming here, freight charges are not an issue. If we need to drop ship a single dozen to the recipient, it’s only $4.50 to do so, so still quite a good deal with what’s happened to shipping charges this last 6-8 years. You can imprint up to 3 lines, in your choice of 4 colors, and up to 17 characters per line including spaces and any punctuation. So either come by or give us a call and we can get these in the works for you. Orders placed by December 4 are guaranteed delivery by December 24. We can get them done later than that, but they’ll charge us a good bit extra for speedier freight. Personalized golf balls are always the right color, right size, and will never end up in a closet!!!
Lucia and I are coming up on our 19th Holiday Season here at Alto and we want to wish each of you and yours the very best of the Season, and a most prosperous and happy new year. On behalf of the staff, you continue to make it fun for us, and we look forward to a very bright future for Alto Lakes and the Outlaw and being a part thereof. You are a great group, and we appreciate you one and all.
Until 2021!
Don, Martin, Lance, John, Sean, and Elizabeth.
