Hitting out of High Grass! Appropriate for all the rain we have had. Regardless of the length of the shot you MUST take a more lofted club. The take away is slightly different; instead of taking it back low and trying to drag the ground, it must be a more upright move off the ball. Normal in swing plane, just a more upright move. This allows you to make a more descending blow into the grass to help get it in the air. If hitting a longer shot, and it's not really buried deep in the grass, use a Hybrid and hit down on the ball to help elevate the ball out. If it's really deep in it, a more lofted iron is needed. Distance now is not the object; it's just getting it back on the fairway to play the next one. Use anywhere from a 9-iron to a sand wedge. Use a more upright back swing and hit down in the grass. Also, YOU MUST FOLLOW THROUGH. Don't just hit down in the grass and stop. There needs to be a finish to help get it up. Around the greens, use basically the same shot but always with a sand wedge. This shot can be hit down on and not finished as long, but needs to go through the grass slightly to move it forward. Hope this helps. Any questions, do not hesitate to come and ask.
