Aside from a few cold and maybe windy days, Winter has not evidently surfaced quite yet; Great for golf! Although we need the moisture it’s nice to be enjoying this weather thus far!
We’d like to thank all who brought goodies, cards, and gifts to us during the Holidays. We thank you for thinking of us; it also reminds us of how wonderful and family oriented our membership really is.
As you know, we are currently in a transition stage with our golf shops right now. At Alto, we are temporarily set up for business in the Sierra Room during our remodel process. Outlaw is unaffected with construction but similar to Alto, our inventory levels are at very low for this reason. The whole process is set to be complete the first week in February. Outlaw will have all new fixtures and more modified retail space as a result of it. Alto will have a new counter area, lots of new fixtures and retail space, upgraded lighting, floors, as well as a fitting room. These changes will enable us to be a more efficient retail operation as well as serving membership needs. We’re excited for you to see it!
The tournament calendar is in the process of being completed(it is December 22nd as I write this). All the major dates are set at this point as well as the ALGA, AL9GA, AMGA, and Duffers Golf play days. ALGA and AMGA play days will still be on Wednesdays. AL9GA and Duffers Golf will still be on Mondays. Stay tuned for the official calendar to be released soon once approved by the Board of Directors. The final calendar should be ready by the next Avalanche.
We are also in the process of printing new scorecards for the upcoming season. Our handicap committee is also working hard to reassess the hole handicap allocations. We have had meetings with the Sun Country Section in this process which reverts back to our last course rating roughly one year ago. This is a diligent process but also one that requires much thought and data to support the outcome.
REMEMBER: It is that time of the year again. This is the time where the annual dues are billed to your account for all Associations; ALGA, AL9GA, and AMGA. The annual fee is billed in January. If you do not wish to participate in any of these associations, please contact Charisse in the office to notify her of the change. In addition, the GHIN handicap fee is billed at the end of January as well.
SHOUT OUT: Please join me by congratulating Mr. Bill Doyle for being awarded Sun Country Section Amateur golfer of the year! Bill has been a staple with The Sun Country Section for many years and has given so much to the game of golf and our section. Please thank Bill for all his time and efforts to the game of golf! Bill is also the President of The Board of Directors of the Sun Country Amateur Golf Association. Great work Bill and thank you for what you do!
I am excited to attend the 2022 PGA Merchandise show at the end of this month! The golf merchandise business is ever changing year in and year out. With new products being introduced so often, it’s good to be on the cutting edge and always looking at what’s trending, selling, or what are we missing? I’m there to observe all of that as well as looking for fresh ideas in tee gifts for various club events. It should be a great expo.
HOLE IN ONE REPORT: We have no hole in ones reported for the month of December but we did have an albatross(2 on a par 5). On Novemebr 29, 2021 Don Ratay made his second shot on #9 at Outlaw with a 6-iron. Witnessing this was Roy Reynolds, Dave Helmke, and Don Walters. Great 2 Don!!!
Are you in the hole in one club? If you are interested please contact Charisse Wadsworth at [email protected]. The program costs $5 per person and reloads each time a hole in one participant makes a hole in one. Each golf shop has a simple form to fill out should you have one. Inquire at either golf shop for the form.
