Tournaments/Event Schedules

We hold our annual membership meeting in June, followed by a "French Open" themed mixer, a "Breakfast at Wimbledon" mixer in July, an Interclub mixer in August and close out the busy summer with a "US Open" mixer. We hosted a TRIATHLON event (tennis, pickleball and 8 holes of golf) in June and an introduction to tennis for kids (aged 6-12) in early July. Watch the Avalanche for exact dates. Themed snacks and drinks are furnished at each mixer and fun for all levels of players. Guests are always welcome at any of our play days or mixers with a $10 guest fee.

October 2024

October–when the leaves and license plates turn yellow…..

With lingering memories of a noteworthy US Open, we tennis players look forward to autumn’s days of play unrestricted by summer’s heat or spring’s wind!

And what a US Open it was. With favorites Carlos Alcaraz, Coco Gauff, Iga Swiatek and Novak Djokovic eliminated early, both men’s and women’s singles titles were up for grabs.  American hopes ran high for Jessica Pegula on the women’s side and Taylor Fritz on the men’s. Alas, both Americans were defeated in straight sets by their opponents in the finals, but they fought like champions.

September 2024

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. . . .”

Charles Dickens’s words are as relevant today as they were in 1859 when he wrote the first line of “A Tale of Two Cities.”  In both our community and in the tennis world, this summer has seen exhilarating highs and excruciating lows. But through it all, we have all survived.

August 2024

Last month, Michelle King, a professional pickleball and tennis instructor, was able to still hold clinics at ALGCC thanks to the generosity of Mary Helen, Rob Saffer, and Cindy Stowe offering lodging for her stay.  Melissa and Brent Kriegel had planned on hosting her the week of July 22, but sadly their guest cabin was one of the many that completely burned down during the South Fork fires. Due to the devastating fires and potential floods plaguing many of our neighbors, ALTA did not hold its traditional "Breakfast at Wimbledon" tennis mixer or FIRST RACQUET program for kids last month.  But, we are optimistic that next month we will be able to return to all the activities enjoyed by this wonderful community.

May 2024

May stimulates us tennis players to forget April rain, March winds, and winter snow as we burst onto the court clad in our favorite tennis shirts, skirts, and shorts. New tennis shoes bounce happily as we toss new balls high and swing with either a familiar racquet feeling new in our hands or perhaps a new racquet, waiting to be tried out.
