Last month saw the demolition and recovery of salvageable furniture and roofing of the wind-collapsed pavilion. The Tennis/Pickleball Commission, the Construction Advisory Commission, and ALPOA are all exploring what type of facility can be built for the enjoyment of the entire ALGCC membership (i.e., rest rooms, covered pavilion, outdoor furniture).
On Saturday, September 10, ALTA will host a US OPEN Tennis Mixer and invite the Alamogordo Tennis Association to participate. This event will also include a fundraiser to benefit the FOOD4KIDS Backpack program (a 501(c)(3) all-volunteer organization sending weekend food to children in Lincoln County for over 13 years). If you would like to donate a raffle item or make a cash donation, please contact Belinda Campbell (2becampbell@gmail.com).
TENNIS TIP: When faced with two opponents at the net, many doubles teams become stubborn and try to blast the ball through them. Instead, try a soft, low slice. The lack of speed will give your opponent little to work with; plus, a low ball forces your opponent to volley up, which will give you the opportunity to put the ball away. Another approach when facing two opponents at the net? Think about lobbing deep to their backhand side.
