As fall has arrived, we sadly say goodbye to many of you. If you're able to return before next summer, note that we are starting play at 10am. If you don't have a partner/foursome but want to keep up your tennis skills, a backboard is the ideal foe to face when you're looking to improve your game. A few drills for a practice session with a backboard:
- Think CONTROL, not power.
- Commit to getting each ball on one bounce.
- Play with intensity. Aim to work out for 30 minutes.
- To help with precision, technique, and consistency, hit the ball with your racquet and catch it with your hand. Then hit two balls, and catch the ball; then hit three balls and catch with your hand. Continue until you reach 10 hits.
- Alternate between crosscourt and inside-out forehands, a great drill to improve movement. Repeat using your backhand shots.
- Volleying against a wall isn't easy but that's what makes it such a good place to practice. Use a short swing and aim for control rather than power.
