Last month, Michelle King, a professional pickleball and tennis instructor, was able to still hold clinics at ALGCC thanks to the generosity of Mary Helen, Rob Saffer, and Cindy Stowe offering lodging for her stay. Melissa and Brent Kriegel had planned on hosting her the week of July 22, but sadly their guest cabin was one of the many that completely burned down during the South Fork fires. Due to the devastating fires and potential floods plaguing many of our neighbors, ALTA did not hold its traditional "Breakfast at Wimbledon" tennis mixer or FIRST RACQUET program for kids last month. But, we are optimistic that next month we will be able to return to all the activities enjoyed by this wonderful community. To that end, we have scheduled our:
Annual ALTA meeting and US OPEN tennis mixer
Saturday, September 7, at 9:00 AM
Our ALTA Secretary, Melissa Kriegel, will be sending out an email to all of our ALTA members later this month so you can sign up to play or come to just enjoy our delicious food and beverages.
The Outlaw Pavilion with restrooms and storage facilities for our equipment is COMPLETE! Thanks again to ALPOA for providing the BBQ/granite counter and picnic furniture for the entire ALGCC community to enjoy. Reservations for private functions at the pavilion can be arranged with Craig Maldonado at Outlaw.
TENNIS TIPS:
How do you combat the serve and volley doubles player? How to have more success breaking serve? When the server is at the baseline, return DEEP. When facing a net-rushing server, return the ball to the far wide corner to ensure a low and difficult volley. To take time away from the server coming in, stand close to the baseline and black the return. Lobbing over the server's partner is a great option against serve and volleyers. If these strategies aren't working, think about you and your partner being both back to the baseline. That formation can be advantageous if your groundstrokes are better than your opponents' volleys. Lastly, RELAX and have FUN!
